Tanner was born on 24 September 2001 in Birmingham, taking his first steps in the world of football in the FC Dallas Academy, making his first team debut (in MLS) on 1 March 2020. He moved to Venezia the following year , making his debut in the Italian Cup match against Frosinone. He made 20 less-than-exciting appearances in his first season in Serie A, which was marked by the relegation of the Venetian club. Also in 2021, the American makes his national team debut, taking over in the match against Tobago and Trinidad; he then played in the friendly against Uzbekistan, which the USA won 3-0. In Serie B he finds continuity and above all excellent performances: he scores 3 goals in the 2022-23 season, and then establishes himself in the following season with 7 goals and 3 assists, becoming, in fact, one of the protagonists of Venezia’s promotion.
