She is hospitalized in serious conditions at the Versilia hospital in Lido di Camaiore, in the province of Lucca, a 89 year old lady who was the victim of an attempted robbery last Wednesday.
The woman resisted, falling to the ground and suffering a fracture of the femur and pelvis. The episode occurred in broad daylight inside the Western pine forest of Viareggioone of the city’s two pine forests.
The criminal suddenly pounced on the lady, trying to snatch first the gold necklace from her neck and then her bag: the old woman, who was walking in the company of a friend, in an attempt to defend herself dropped the stick on which he was holding himself up to move, falling to the ground after violently slammed into a low wall which is located at the entrance to the pine forest.
The attacker then gave in to the escape with an electric scooter without license plate, together with a girl who was acting as his lookout and was waiting for him a short distance away. At that point rescue operations began, with the arrival in the area of men and vehicles sent by the 118 operations centre: the elderly woman was transported to the Versilia hospital, where she is now hospitalized in serious conditions.
The police are investigating the incident: the suspicion is that the girl who acted as a “lookout” could be the same as a few days before he had stolen another gold chain from a woman in Massarosa, also in Versilia, on the street. In that case the victim had been hugged in the street by a stranger who had just asked her for information, only to discover a few hours later, once she returned home, that she no longer had her chain around her neck.
