Summer in the City 2024: a program of over one hundred events and reviews of various kinds to enliven the city between June and September, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to choose between music initiatives, entertainment, cultural and sporting activities, exhibitions, entertainment, with events that watch to all age groups. Three months to experience the city and its territory in the open air, with an eye on two highly anticipated events: from Saturday 6 July the extraordinary openings of the atrium and the former Tau church in Corso Fedi with the initiative Marino and Pistoia together again and the program of “The places of the heart” organized on the occasion of twentieth anniversary of the death of Tiziano Terzani. For this last programme, it is a set of cultural initiatives carried out with the involvement of local associations, in particular of Orsigna, where the writer passed away, with the aim of promoting knowledge of his work and the places to which he was very close.
The calendar of initiatives it was drawn up by the municipal administration in collaboration with cultural, sporting and recreational associations, private entities, foundations and trade associations, to promote the many activities planned and encourage participation. It can be consulted online day by day on the institutional website of the Municipality of Pistoia (www.comune.pistoia.it) and on the one dedicated to culture (www.cultura.comune.pistoia.it).

We started in June, with the cycle Holidays with grandparents, tales of yesterday and today (workshops and meetings for children aged 6 to 11) in the San Giorgio Library every Wednesday and Friday morning, organized by the Friends of San Giorgio; the programming of Cinema under the stars curated by Mabuse Cinema, in the Porta al Borgo Arena from 21 June; The Europeans in Montu, the screening of the 2024 European Championship matches in the Monteoliveto Park by the Friends of Montuliveto Association; the sports tournaments of Palio dei Rioniwho will compete on various playing fields in 5 disciplines (basketball, football, hockey, padel and volleyball).
Ample space is dedicated to events and initiatives that historically characterize the Pistoia summer, such as Jacobean celebrations which end on July 25th with Bear Carousel; The Pistoia Blues Festival and the Blues City starting Thursday 4 July; the thematic itineraries on board the Porrettana Express (on June 23 the train Kidson July 7 A train to TerzaniSeptember 15th Magic Expressthe train on September 21st Kids); the review Open spaces organized by Teatri di Pistoia in collaboration with the Oncological Radiotherapy Foundation onlus from 27 June; there Red Night by Avis on July 4th; The Pistoia Docufilm Festival organized by the Historical Institute of the Resistance from 1st July; The Lie Championship at Le Piastre on 3 and 4 August; The concert of San Lorenzo and Ferragosto; there Feast of St. Bartholomew on August 23 and 24; the Antonini Macchia Festival on August 18; on September 8th Health cycling and so on.
There is also no shortage of initiatives designed to shine a spotlight on places in the historic center and in the area dear to the people of Pistoia, in the homes of art and culture. Among these, i Playing Thursday of the ‘Sociamente’ project al Villone Puccini; the first edition of Off-Road Experience toEcomuseum on July 7; cultural evenings at Pantheon of Illustrious Men; the concerts of the Filarmonica Borgognoni at Parterre of Piazza San Francesco; the events of the Pistoia Musei Foundation a Palazzo de’ Rossi; The Pistoia Vision Talk to the Puccini Gatteschi cultural center.
Visits, exhibitions and events in the spirit of contemporaneity, with historical incursions, also in city museums and places of culturelike the Civic Museumsthe San Giorgio Library, San Jacopo in Castellare and others, to tell Pistoia, its traditions, its passions and its history. Within the program, the photographic exhibition Orsigna Main Mountain in Frescoed rooms of the town hallfrom 12 July to 30 August, which, through the shots of photographer Alexey Pivovarov, expertly conveys Terzani’s relationship with the natural environment of that place.
Alongside the more well-known places, summer is also an opportunity to discover new and less central spaces. Just to name a few, Villa di Baggio which proposes in July Villa di Baggio celebrating (from 15 to 20 July) and the Beer festival (12 and 13 July); guided tours byEcomuseum Association of the Pistoia Mountains; the shows a Cireglio Castle it’s at Badia a Pacciana; the procession of San Lorenzo a Pracchia; Summer in the Hills on the Passo della Collina Sunday 11 August, the August 15th celebration to Piteccio and the activities at the Abetone Forest Botanical Garden.
There are also many commercial initiativeswith the Blues Market in via Cavour, via Buozzi, via Curtatone and Montanara from Wednesday 10th (from 6pm) to Saturday 13th July; A’ Vucciria Sicilia Street Food in Piazza della Resistenza from 13 to 15 September and Another park in the city in the historic center in mid-September; there Autumn Fair in viale Adua on 29 September.
