06/18/2024 – For Pesaro, Italian capital of culture 2024, a triple anniversary will be celebrated on June 21st: the 60th Pesaro International New Cinema Exhibition, the 30th year of the Music Festival, the centenary of the birth of Henry Mancini. These three anniversaries will characterize the Mancini 100 concert organized by the Rossini Conservatory of Pesaro in collaboration with the Pesaro Film Festival.

In Piazza del Popoloat 9.30pm with free entry, theRhythmic-symphonic orchestra of the Rossini Conservatory will pay homage to Henry Mancini with a program entirely composed of his music arranged and directed by the teachers of the Jazz School Gian Marco Gualandi, Vincenzo Presta, Massimiliano Rocchetta.

Italian-American composer, director and arranger, awarded with 20 Grammy Awards, four Academy Awards and a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Mancini has marked the public imagination with unforgettable film soundtracks Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Pink Panther, Charade, Peter Gunn, Victor Victoria, Hatari. The tribute to his music will at the same time be a tribute to cinema: the videos (editing and concept by Mauro Campobasso, Rossini’s jazz guitar teacher) will accompany the chosen repertoire with images taken not only from the major successes of American directors Blake Edwards and Stanley Donen with whom Mancini collaborated for decades, but also from Sunflowers by Vittorio De Sica, masterfully interpreted by Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren.

Once again the collaboration between the Rossini Conservatory and the Pesaro Film Festival takes place, as in previous editions, along the lines of a double narrative, the sound one and the cinematographic one, but, unlike the concerts of past seasons, the concert for the della musica 2024 is enriched with a further element: the contemporary creativity of the arrangements by Gualandi, Presta and Rocchetta.

On stage, alongside the students of the Symphony-Rhythm Orchestra of the Rossini Conservatory, we will hear the solo voices of Alessia Obino (Rossini’s jazz singing teacher), Ernesto Marciante (Jazz singing teacher of the Toscanini Conservatory), Arianna Cleri, Chiara Paoli , Giovanna Sofia Principi.

The event sees as partners of the initiative the main public institutions of the Marche region (Marche Region, Province of Pesaro and Urbino, Municipality of Pesaro, Pesaro 2024), the MiC – Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual and the 30th European Music Festival. The presence of some students and teachers from the Toscanini Conservatory of Ribera – Agrigento, Italian Capital of Culture 2025, will mark an ideal passing of the baton of the title of Capital between Pesaro and Agrigento.
