“Let’s read that the investigating judiciary requested the dismissal of the criminal chapter relating to the alleged use of waste as a foundation for the Maritime Park. The decision will be made shortly. Since the de Pascale Council makes so many that it causes the less recent ones to be erased from memory due to the accumulation of new flaws, a reminder is useful.
The project pompously called Maritime Park eats up enormous public resources for the widely discussed and, above all, rightly criticized creation of a so-called redevelopment of the small roads behind the dunes that run between the pine forest and the beach or, better yet, the back of the beach establishments. Let us leave aside the discussion here on the non-existent goodness of the project and the effectiveness instead of the killing of healthy plants that this continues to cause. We have already talked about it extensively in recent months, also documenting the latest (in chronological order) atrocities perpetrated in Lido di Savio. Obviously our protest remains, firm and punctual.
But on this occasion it is appropriate to return in memory to the complaints documented on television in a series of news programs broadcast by national and local networks between March and April 2023 relating to the material clearly visible on the maritime park construction site. That is, in an area where that same type of material is removed on days specifically dedicated to the elimination of abandoned waste from our beaches and pine forests. Days in which the logo of the Municipality of Ravenna is generally on display. In the “indicted” services the journalist mercilessly he announced aloud what the images showed: «the images speak clearly: among the material used for the base there are numerous plastics, bricks and corrugated».
At the end of August 2023 the Councilor “for scapegoats” Del Conte declared: «The materials relating to the crushed material present on the construction site have test and laboratory certificates compliant with the corresponding regulations in force. Sampling and analyzes were carried out on those materials which gave positive results».
The reply provided at the time as Ravenna in the Municipality it seems to us that it has not lost even a comma of its relevance: «From the words of the Councilor, it would seem that the company has more or less complied with what was foreseen in the contract specifications. And this, let us tell you, would perhaps be even worse than poor execution of the job. In fact, like Ravenna in the Municipality, we believe it is completely inconceivable that, in an area like the one in question, a project approved by the Council could have foreseen the use of materials that everyone has seen in the television reports which have rightly ridiculed the works in progress. We are talking about cables, lighters, plastic pipes, nets, broken tiles, quantities of plastic, bricks, corrugated. It is not a question of certification or not or even of “circular economy”. Is the de Pascale Administration able to understand that no so-called redevelopment project can allow plastic waste to be buried near the pine forest? If materials of that type have been spread, they must urgently be removed».
This does not appear to have happened, however now, apparently, crushed rock is actually being used in the subsequent phases of the project. Like Ravenna in the Municipality, we believe that for this albeit partial positive result, the citizens and the associations (primarily Our Italy) who raised the alarm, and also the other (rare) political forces who responded to the appeal (such as List for Ravenna who has called a special press conference next Thursday, at 11 am, at Palazzo Merlato). Without it, we have no doubt that he would have continued to let the same type of stuff hang out, suggesting that it would even have been an “ecological” behaviour.
It may be that the judiciary does not see criminal profiles in the behavior carried out on one of the construction sites that de Pascale has taken as a symbol of his second mandate. However, like Ravenna in the Municipality, we remain of the opinion that deciding to bury what Councilor Costantini defined as “reuse material which may also contain waste from other building works” as a percentage, a stone’s throw from the beach and pine forest, was a disaster shameful. Even if the crime of having set up a landfill on the seashore was not found, the behavior of the Council can actually be taken as a symbol of the normal behavior of this Administration. And it will not be the “miracle” of the transformation of plastic waste into crushed rock that will improve our consideration of the work of de Pascale & co. from 2016 to today.”
