“Scala di Giocca-Osilo”: another successful edition

The 27th edition organized by the Club Automoto d’Epoca Il Volante of Sassari took place from 15 to 16 June.
The historic Cultural Tourist Event with skill tests for Vintage Cars called “SCALA DI GIOCCA – OSILO” took place this weekend, organized by the Vintage Automoto Club Il Volante of Sassari, now in its twenty-seventh edition.
The event took place this year with over 50 crews who with passion and joy participated in this umpteenth re-edition which falls on the centenary of the first event which took place in 1924!
Crews who, coming from all over the island and the peninsula, admired surprising landscapes along the route and encountered the extraordinary hospitality of the towns of Castelsardo, on Saturday 15 June, as well as Sassari, Nulvi and Chiaramonti, on Sunday 16.
But let’s go in order: on Saturday morning in Piazzale Segni in Sassari the historic cars, including the older Fiat 508 Balilla, Fiat 1100 E, Porsche 356, Volkswagen Beetle, Triumph TR3/A, many models of Lancia cars and other classic cars Era came marching and
sparkling, nestled in the Segni square in Sassari where the technical checks took place in front of the patient work of the Club Il Volante staff.
The Scala di Giocca – Osilo has been included in the National Events calendar of the ASI as a Cultural Tourist Event with skill tests and on Saturday afternoon the cars with the assigned numbers set off, thus starting to get serious….., starting the battle with the use of mechanical chronometers and challenging each other with healthy competition, on the route from Piazzale Segni to the Predda Niedda industrial area and arrival at
the fascinating Castelsardo, on the pressure switches immediately made it clear that the challenge had begun.
The newly elected Mayor of Castelsardo Maria Lucia Tirotto attended the arrival and display of the historic cars in the Novecentenario Square, overlooking the wonderful sea towards Corsica.
This event is no longer a speed sports competition, but rather an event with skill tests for historic cars, but there was no lack of fun in every aspect.
On Sunday morning, from the central Piazza d’Italia, in the presence of the newly elected mayor of Sassari Giuseppe Mascia and the Commander of the Sassari Brigade, General Stefano Messina, the historic cars set off for the second day towards the famous Scala circuit
of Giocca.
In the subsequent skill tests in Martis and finally in front of the majestic Basilica of Saccargia, the competitive spirit of pilots and navigators, with numerous and colorful female crews, more or less experienced, never failed and after two pleasant stops in the hospitable towns of Nulvi e
Chiaramonti, in the presence of the respective mayors and the population, we reached the end of the route where the belligerence of the competition was suspended during the banquet at the famous restaurant next to Saccargia where everyone put down their stopwatches to savor the dishes
typical of Sardinian cuisine and the rankings were published there and the winners were awarded prizes.
In the skill tests of the Scala di Giocca – Osilo 2024, the Romans Silvio Trombetta and Sabrina Pierri on a 1961 Volkswagen Type 1 won first place overall, preceding the very skilled Ivan Fara, navigated by Alessandro Madeddu on a 1971 Fiat 500.
In third place on the podium were Alessandro Virzì and Valentino Poddi in a 1964 Volkswagen Beetle.
Particular mention goes to the “pink” crew made up of Vittoria Masala and Nadia Bardino on a 1966 Autobianchi Bianchina cabriolet who won the women’s category and took eleventh place in the general classification.
The event was the occasion for a poignant moment dedicated to our friend Salvatore Bortolu, secretary of the Il Volante Club, who passed away last December, to whom the event was dedicated. In front of his two children and his family, the race director Angelo Melis dedicated a moving and intense remembrance to Salvatore’s memory.
As usual, there was no shortage of Miss Flying Miss 2024; this year the choice fell on the very young and beautiful Alice Messina.
At the moment of the farewell toast among all the participants, the final greetings from the satisfied President Vanda Casula, from the president of ACI Sport and AC Sassari Giulio Pes, from the Commander of the Local Police of Sassari, Gianni Serra, from the Commander of the Sassari Brigade, General Stefano Messina, who carefully followed the event on Sunday, as a navigator on board a splendid 1953 Citroen Traction Avant, getting involved in the melancholy that characterizes the end of all pleasant events that always appear to last too short.
The event therefore ended with a very long round of applause, full of consensus which thrilled all the organizing staff… but above all all the participants!
