Ready for UNESCO: “We won’t stop. Luminara 2025 will be even more beautiful”

Pisa, 18 June 2024 – “I am very satisfied and we are ready to try again with the request to include the Luminara in the list of UNESCO intangible heritagebecause it has all the requirements to be there.” The day after the Great Beauty, the councilor for historical traditions, Filippo Bedini, receives compliments for one of the most beautiful celebrations for San Ranieri ever and relaunches: “We will try to make it even more beautiful there Luminara 2025 investing around 30 thousand euros in the creation of new linens also with curved axes to design the most noble buildings overlooking the Lungarni even better”.

What worked best?

“The organizational machinery worked very well. And this year’s lamps proved that our choice was right: they were significantly more resistant to gusts of wind and the flames were more vivid. The Pisans also liked the Latin writing on the Ponte di Mezzo, with the name of our patron saint, to remind everyone, Pisans and tourists, that we were celebrating San Ranieri. Overall, including the fireworks, the show was unanimously appreciated by the estimated 100,000+ spectators on the Lungarni.

And what, if anything, didn’t you like?

“We can and must always do better, but overall I am very satisfied with the work done. From the lighting of the candles, to the cleaning at dawn, up to the impact of the stalls in the new location contained in the trade plan. A special thank you goes to I address the workers in our carpentry shop who worked on the renovation of the linens despite not having all the necessary tools available to adapt to the architecture of the buildings. I am sorry for those who, among the public establishments, did not heed our appeal to turn off the signs neon lights on the Arno river, which objectively clash with the context we created. From this point of view I hoped and hope for greater sensitivity”.

Being recognized as a UNESCO heritage site remains the main objective.

“We believe we have all the requirements to obtain this prestigious recognition which would also have great value in attracting an ever-increasing number of tourists. With the architect Andrea Iacomoni, of the La Sapienza University of Rome, we are ready to develop a project to participate officially banned and try to win a title that we are convinced would be fully deserved. For this reason I am also happy with the participation of private citizens in our event”.

In what sense?

“They contributed to the set-up by ensuring that the lamps were turned off and turned on again if necessary and by showing, right from the first meetings, a willingness to lend an extremely interesting hand for the future. We have already started a process of dialogue with some architects and we will involve others to design new curvilinear lines capable of being ever more faithful to the profiles of our historic buildings. We want this to be the leap in quality of 2025”.
