ALEXANDRIA – Today Alexandria loses a figure who dedicated his life to others. He passed away at the age of 78, Savino Di Donna, always ready to help people in difficulty, until the last second of his life. Savino had run away from home at 18 to reach the Don Gnocchi mutilated center in Turin and that experience was the greatest thing he carried with him into every aspect of his existence. Don Gnocchia religious man who spent his life for the last, in fact, before dying, he expressed his desire to donate his corneasexplaining that his wish was “give eyes to two of my boys. I only have my eyes left, these too are for my amputees.”
Savino Di Donna did the same. “Closing a circle he also donated his corneas“, explained his daughter Rossella, moved by the touching example that her father was able to give right up to the end. Savino led Aias for years, from 1975 to 2003, an association that took care of disabled people and always defended it with fierce and convinced battles, assisting them in every moment of their lives. As Rossella recalls, sometimes their father’s immense attention to them was a source of small envy in the family but he replied: “You are lucky, you must remember this, putting the values of things back into place“. His example is strong today in those who remember him and in the many messages of affection sent to Rossella and his other daughter Patrizia. “There are those who remember when, during the flood, he arrived with the dinghy to save families in difficulty or those who underline how he was an example in social matters. A sea of affectionate messages that ease the pain a little.”
Savino passed away after a long and inexorable illness, but still fighting, explained his family who thanked the Alessandria Hospital and Dr. Traverso for the attention and sensitivity shown. However, Alessandria loses another important social figure for everyone.
