“15 years have passed since that tragic night. A date that, with the whistle of every train that will pass until midnight tonight, will reopen a wound that will never heal in the citizens of this beautiful city. This is why it is important to establish a museum dedicated to the memory of the victims of the 2009 train massacre, with the aim of promoting railway safety. As the Democratic Party, a year ago we presented to both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate a bill signed by the Democratic Party parliamentarians of Tuscany: Emiliano Fossi, Marco Furfaro, Simona Bonafè, Federico Gianassi, Laura Boldrini, Arturo Scotto, Christian Di Sanzo, Ylenia Zambito, Dario Parrini, Silvio Franceschelli and Marco Simiani.
“The objectives of the museum would be multiple, say the PD exponents: to spread knowledge of the causes and consequences of the accident, pay homage to the victims and their families, promote good practices and research to improve railway safety, monitor the safety of the system national railway system, identify the most critical areas and propose solutions, promote educational activities and organize events, conferences, exhibitions and other events on railway safety issues – they continue -. Furthermore, the museum would provide support for scholastic and ongoing education activities through its own educational and informative proposals”.
According to the exponents of the Democratic Party: “The time has come to give substance to the work of the associations of the families of the victims of the Viareggio station massacre. For this reason, we expect full support from our majority colleagues to approve this provision already in the next budget”.
