It’s no mystery that many television products have chosen to end with a feature film. But with Stranger Things we will go much further: eight mini-films await us, making up the fifth and final season of the Netflix horror TV series.
There’s more: the final episode of the fifth season, the last ever, will last “at least two hours“. Already in the past the TV series had proven itself among the longest-running in terms of episode duration. The final episode of the second part of Stranger Things 4 lasts two and a half hours. It is therefore more than reasonable to expect great things from the fifth season of the award-winning Netflix show.
Maya Hawke, one of the show’s stars and daughter of the very famous Uma Thurman, spoke about the length of the episodes. According to the actress, who plays Robin in the show, the crew working on the fifth season would be “basically making eight films“. Maya’s words echo in the Prodcrushed podcast.
“Season 4 and season 5 are very connected“, has explained. “Season 4 had a Part I and a Part II because they were hoped for, so the last two episodes came out at different times, which is unusual for the streaming market. But in this case it is a season in itself. It’s a continuation, but it’s the ending. And it’s been a long time since last season.”
Season 4 stopped in March 2020 due to the pandemic, while the production of the fifth and final season had to deal first with the writers’ strike in 2023, then with that of the actors before filming began in January 2024. Speaking of the showrunners, Maya Hawke wanted to praise Matt and Ross Youngdefining them “very serious about quality and writing, so it takes a long time to write each season and a long time to shoot them.”
