horror in the Latina countryside

Horror in the Pontine countryside where a worker suffered the amputation of an arm and then, instead of being transported to hospital, was dumped in front of his house by his employer. Thanks to the alarm raised by a colleague he was rescued and is now hospitalized in Rome in serious conditions.

The accident

The very serious accident at work occurred this afternoon on a farm near Borgo Santa Maria. According to the reconstruction, a worker of Indian nationality, responsible for cutting hay, lost an arm, detached from a machine, also suffering other serious fractures. Instead of being helped by the employers “he was dumped like a bag of rubbish near his home”, says Flai CGIL who, together with the General Secretary of Frosinone Latina, immediately rushed to the scene to see what had happened and how to help the people involved. The worker was transported by air ambulance to Rome.

The reconstruction

«I was contacted by a worker who sent me a photo of a severed limb – says Hardeep Kaur, General Secretary Flai Cgil Frosinone Latina – explaining that it was an accident that occurred to a fellow worker, who in desperate conditions was dumped on the street from a 9-seater minibus. It’s not a horror film, unfortunately it’s all true. Here we are not only faced with a serious accident at work, which is already alarming and avoidable in itself, here we are faced with the barbarity of exploitation, which tramples on people’s lives, dignity, health and every rule of civilization. We will monitor these fields, these roads, these villages and districts every day and for the next few weeks there will be many of us, because we cannot work in these conditions.”
