There bookshelf “The Bridge over the Dora” in Turin was again the victim of an attempt theft, just three months after a similar episode. On the night between 14 and 15 June, unknown persons forced the shutter and broke down the entrance to the premises, turning the interior of the bookshop upside down without taking anything of value away.

The chest was thrown to the ground, but neither money nor books were stolen, leaving the owners in a state of dismay and bitterness. The owners have shared their frustration on social mediaexpressing their disappointment at the recurrence of such incidents in the neighborhood.

They wrote, underlining the difficulty of having to face such unpleasant situations within a few months of each other:

It happened again. In this neighborhood now Episodes like this are recurrent. This time too we have no words; there was no money in the till and not even a book was taken away. We are dismayed.

In the first theft the thieves had taken the cash box

The first theft, which occurred in March, saw the thieves succeed to take away the box after breaking down the entrance and turned the entire library upside down, scattering the books everywhere. This second attempt, although not as destructive, still inflicted a severe moral blow on the owners, who now have to deal with the vulnerability of theirs shop and with the growing insecurity of the neighborhood.

The “Il Ponte sulla Dora” bookshop, located in via Pisa, is a cultural reference point for the local community. In addition to offering a wide range of books, it hosts events, meetings and presentations that enrich the social fabric of the neighborhood.

Episodes of vandalism and theft undermine not only the safety of traders but also the tranquility and sense of community that the bookshop tries to promote. There solidarity from customers and citizens was immediate, with many expressing their support through messages and visits to the bookstore. This human warmth represents a light in a difficult time, demonstrating that the community is ready to defend and support the places that make the neighborhood a better place.
