The largest event dedicated to comics, videogames, cinema and cosplay (but not only…) warms up its engines and in the setting of the Giunti Odeon bookshop in Florence has announced the first news of the next edition. Let’s start with the dates, Lucca Comics & Games will take place from October 30th to November 3rd, the theme is a clear tribute to Giacomo Puccini, of which 2024 marks the centenary of his death. With “The Butterfly Effect” Lucca celebrates Puccini’s opera which has been expressed in three posters also dedicated to three great women narrated by the maestro. The first manifesto, presented today in Florence, is dedicated to Toscain September during the last announcements the one dedicated to Madame Butterflywhile the last one will see the light at the inauguration of Lucca Comics & Games, on October 30th, for the Turandot. All the posters were created by the great Japanese sensei Yoshitaka Amanoknown for his groundbreaking work in animation, video games and contemporary art.

We are talking about an event that manages to sell over 350 thousand tickets and brings over a million people to Lucca in just a few days and which has become an iconic event, imposing itself forcefully on the tourist and cultural offer of Tuscany. The fact that we present it today at the Giunti Odeon is proof of the existence of this virtuous circuit Lucca Florence”.
First announcements
Netflix will be among the protagonists of this edition with an unmissable event dedicated to the most successful Korean series. On Thursday 31 October, the second season of Squid Game will be presented in the presence of the creator, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk and the protagonists Lee Jung Jae And Wi Ha-Jun who will be in Lucca to meet the fans. The series will be available only on Netflix by the end of 2024. The celebrations of the 25° anniversary of One piece. In fact, two great guests from Japan will participate in Lucca Comics & Games: Tatsuya Nagamine (director of the last years of One Piece and previously of many other TOEI titles, including Dragon Ball Super: Broly) And Kenji Yokoyama (historical animator from the first episodes to today).
For D&D lovers, the Koder Collectionwith original masterpieces by Larry Elmore, Jeff Easley, Clyde Caldwell, Keith Parkinson, Brom, Todd Lockwood, in a unique exhibition in the world: “Gateway to Adventure: 50 Years of D&D Art”. It will be taken care of by Jon Petersonone of the most important historians of the game, author among other things of Dungeons and Dragons – Art & Arcana and the extraordinary collection of rare documents The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons 1970-1977recently published by Wizards of the Coast, and by Jessica Lee Pattersonan art historian who has been working on cataloging the collection since 2022. The exhibition will be hosted in the Church of the Servites.
The municipal administration of Lucca then announced that it will name the basement of the bulwark San Paolino to Gary Gygax and Dave Arnesoncreators of Dungeons & Dragons.
Lucca Comics & Games will also celebrate the first 40 years of the famous game Tetris with Alexey L. Pajitnovcreator of TetrisAnd Henk B. Rogersco-founder of The Tetris Company, will talk about the game’s history, its impact on pop culture and share their thoughts on the direction the brand is taking with festival attendees.
Born as an author of comic novels, under the pseudonym Jovial Bob Stine (his first novel is entitled How to Be Funny1978), Robert Lawrence Stine is now synonymous with “shivers”. The author of the series of novels for girls and boys Little shivershe arrives for the first time in Italy to meet his fans, from young readers to the most knowledgeable ones who have grown up with his series.
In short, it is only the beginning of what promises to be an important new edition for the Lucca event which will continue in the coming months with the announcements of guests and scheduled events. The sale of tickets and season tickets will open on July 1st, in early bird mode.
