Despite the appeal to the TAR by five landowners in the area against all the entities interested in the construction of the new Traversa San Giorgio underpass, the Cassa di Risparmio di Carpi Foundation officially announces that the construction site for the construction of a work that will be created between Via Bassa and Via Bersana, to protect pedestrians and cyclists from crossing the dangerous stretch of road where several people have lost their lives over the years, most recently the young Alessandra Arletti. “An intervention that will constitute a completely safe connection between the city, the Santa Croce hamlet and the large park – underlines the president of the CR Carpi Foundation, Mario Ascari –. The underpass is an essential condition for the opening of the park and the Foundation is proceeding to implement what was indicated in its program at the beginning of the mandate”.

The work, entirely financed by the CR Carpi Foundation, is carried out in agreement with the municipal administration and has received the consent of all the territorial bodies of the Services Conference which have provided, each for their respective areas, indications for the implementation of the complex structure which, through a cycle path created by the Municipality of Carpi, will be connected to the city center to facilitate green and sustainable mobility.
The works will have a total duration of approximately four and a half months. They will involve the interruption of the road section in the coming weeks limited to the months of July and August to burden activities and the population as little as possible. A significant reduction in time will be achieved thanks to the use of specific monolithic prefabricated structures which will allow us to avoid a further three weeks of closure.
During the design, every possibility to avoid the interruption of the road section was examined with Anas and with the bodies responsible for the road system, but the construction needs of the work, which must respond to the passage of heavy vehicles and the high flow of a primary city artery, have not made this solution practicable.
The intervention, which was necessary to protect the many pedestrians and cyclists who pass through that area and cross the busy state road, was entrusted, following a tender, to the construction company Garc of Carpi and, in addition to the structural constructions, it will require the diversion and management of the services and systems that connect the hamlet (gas pipes, electricity lines, drainage and lamination channels, etc.).

The project developed by Studio ing. Paltrinieri di Carpi envisages a structure that develops a covered part forty meters long and four meters wide, with lanes of adequate width for the transit of cyclists and pedestrians in separate areas, while the access and exit ramps will have a length of 120 meters linear each and will be equipped with flat rest areas. The work will also be equipped with lighting systems and video surveillance systems in contact with the operations centers.
The works will affect some shrubs on the edge of the Santacroce Park near the construction site. The CR Carpi Foundation will take care of transferring the replantable specimens to more inland areas and replacing those that are damaged, to preserve the high phytoremediative capacity of the large green lung it owns.
