Unions denounce the failure to pay workers’ salaries

The FP Cgil, the CISL FP, the UIL FPL, the UGL and the FIALS have proclaimed the state of agitation of the workers of the Aias of Melfi-Matera. The decision was made due to the non-payment of salary dues, a problem which has exasperated the staff. The state of unrest, previously suspended in February after an agreement in the Prefecture, was reactivated because the commitments made on that occasion were not respected. The Aias of Melfi-Matera attributes the inability to pay salaries to the Region’s delay in payments for the transport service, which have stopped until December 2022. The unions declared: “It is unacceptable that workers have to pay the consequences of years of disinterest towards a service that assists approximately 5,000 Lucanians with disabilities. Workers are exhausted by the constant delays and often have to pay in advance to be able to work, further worsening their economic situation.”

In addition to the delays in payments, the unions highlight the failure to adjust tariffs, which have remained unchanged since 2009, despite the increase in costs. This has put around 1,150 workers in the sector in difficulty, who cannot benefit from the increases provided for by the latest contractual renewal. The situation has led to employees having difficulty supporting their families and meeting financial commitments. Faced with this situation, the unions have asked the prefect to activate the cooling and conciliation procedure, pursuant to law 146/90, which regulates strikes in essential public services.
