From 23 June to 29 August 2024 the fourteenth edition of the. will be held in Cremona and Crema Cremona Summer Festivala summer festival that acts as a container for educational activities related to violin making and music, with a program full of competitions, masterclasses and concerts.
The event opens with concerts by the Kitchener Waterloo Community Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Daniel Warren, in Cortile Federico II, Sunday 23 June, at 9.00 pm; of the Sacramento Choral Society, directed by Maestro Natasha Bach, with the Requiem KV 626 by WA Mozart, in version for choir, soloists and organ, scheduled for Monday 24 June, at 9.00 pm, at the Cathedral of Cremona and by American Music Abroad “Bronze Tour” Orchestra, Choir, Concert Band & Jazz, at the Manenti Auditorium in Crema, scheduled for Wednesday 26 June, at 9.00 pm.
In particular, in the concert in the Cathedral on 24 June, the Cremonese Marzia Castellini, a permanent artist of the Teatro alla Scala Chorus for over twenty years, will also perform among the soloists.
The Cremona Summer Festival is organized by the Cremona Chamber of Commerce, as part of the Masterclass project, with the collaboration of the Municipalities of Cremona, Crema and Casalmaggiore. The Chamber of Commerce has promoted the project with conviction since 2009, with the awareness that music represents a resource for Cremona and its territory to be enhanced also from a tourism point of view. The Cremona area has established itself as “A place to play” for musical organizations from all over the world. After the pause in 2020 and the slow restart in 2021 and 2022, in 2024 the number of expected participants amounts to approximately 2,000 students, musicians, teachers and parents. The related industries are important for the supply chains involved: the reference is not only to hotels and restaurants, to shops selling typical products, but also to the workshops of master luthiers.
The Cremona Summer Festival has the support and collaboration of the International School of Violin Making, the Violin Museum, the Touring Club, the Strada del Gusto Cremonese delle Botteghe del Centro, the Urban District of Commerce, Confartigianato and the Cremonese Filodrammatica Association.
