PESCARA. From Emilia Romagna to Abruzzo to Sardinia, the Coldiretti mobilization extends from North to South with thousands of farmers taking to the streets to stop the invasion of wild boars. Tomorrow the demonstration will be held in Pescara to ask for a change of pace on policies relating to plans to contain ungulates. The farmers’ rally, complete with tractors, is scheduled for 9.00 in Piazza della Repubblica: at 10.00 the procession will move along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II to Piazza Unione where the rally and intervention by Coldiretti managers is scheduled. There will be farmers from all the provinces but also a garrison of tractors led by the organization’s young agricultural entrepreneurs as a symbol of the new generations who believe in Made in Italy agri-food.

The aim of the mobilization is to immediately apply at the regional level the measures provided for by the inter-ministerial decree passed last year for the adoption of an extraordinary plan for the management and containment of wild fauna. The regional plan must include the active involvement of owners and managers of land with a hunting license and the creation of a corps of volunteer guards at the provincial level to fill the deficit of local police personnel with the possibility of also acting in protected areas.

“It is an invasion that puts the countryside and the city at risk – says Coldiretti Abruzzo – it is essential to contain as soon as possible an invasion which in Abruzzo has become a real emergency with 100 thousand specimens free to move without obstacles, with a devastating impact on food production. The situation is critical in all provinces – notes Coldiretti – with unbearable consequences for both companies and people.
An alarm that concerns the countryside and the city, farmers but also citizens who want to contain a danger to the fields and roads. Among the reasons for the mobilization there are also the problems linked to downy mildew, which has severely penalized one of the main sectors of Abruzzo agriculture, currently in a state of crisis. And finally, a message to Europe: the invitation to give greater value to quality agricultural production and Made in Italy agri-food which “today is in danger due to the establishment of an alliance between large multinationals who want to destroy the Italian agri-food system with the complacency of Unionfood and Confagricoltura”.

The appointment is for tomorrow, Thursday 27 June, with events scheduled in Bologna, L’Aquila, Pescara
and Cagliari, under the headquarters of the Region to request the immediate adoption of an extraordinary plan for the management and
containment of wildlife, by applying the measures envisaged by the interministerial decree passed last year at a local level.
The new mobilization follows those made in Umbria, Lombardy and Calabria, with the Coldiretti farmers who
they marched through the streets of Perugia, Milan and Cosenza with tractors and signs, to raise their cry of alarm
compared to an out-of-control presence of wild boars which has taken on the contours of a real natural disaster. In all three cities, regional leaders also intervened and wanted to meet the farmers.

There are approximately 2.3 million wild boars present on the national territory today, Coldiretti recalls, which are now besieging cities and
campaigns devastating crops, causing road accidents and compromising the environmental balance with the loss of
biodiversity.
