Naples, the national Siped conference closed with the awarding of the Italian Pedagogy Award

NAPLES – The speech of the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi concluded the final session of the national conference that the Italian Pedagogy Society held in Naples.

The Hall of the Barons of Castel Nuovo hosted the proclamation ceremony of the winners of the 2024 edition of the Italian Pedagogy Prize and the presentation of the Medal of the City of Naples to Siped.
Thus ended the three days that Siped held in Naples, with the patronage of the Municipality and the participation of the four Neapolitan universities (Federico II, Orientale, Suor Orsola, Partenope) who hosted the works in their institutional headquarters.
Mayor Gaetano Manfredi expressed appreciation and sharing for the proposals and educational programs that emerged during the three days of work.

During the thirty sessions of scientific debate, the overall theme of the national conference was analysed, from various angles, which is “Research and pedagogical planning to combat educational poverty and school dropout”. The first session was introduced by the Councilor for Education and Families of the Municipality of Naples Maura Striano.

In Italy one in four minors lives in conditions of educational poverty with families who are unable to provide for their primary needs of study, sport, entertainment and healthy eating. At the same time, deviant models find easy consensus also because they are amplified by a distorted and compulsive use of social media. The percentage of minors walking around armed is growing and episodes of violence, bullying and cyberbullying are multiplying.

The scientific, educational and social challenge is to deploy the best pedagogical energies to “save” a generation of children and very young people, especially in Southern Italy where 17 percent of students drop out of school while school dropout almost 10 percent.

Among the most interesting perspectives that emerged during the work is the use of AI to support integrated educational programs. One of the in-depth studies was dedicated to this specific topic.

The annual Siped conference was dedicated to Alberto Manzi, a teacher and pedagogist who, in the 1960s, contributed to teaching reading and writing to Italians outside of school age thanks to the television program “It’s never too late”.

“The Italian Society of Pedagogy – stated the president Pierluigi Malavasi – brought together Italian and foreign experts in Naples for a scientific and programmatic discussion regarding the dramatic situation of educational poverty which affects a quarter of minors in our country. 100 years after the birth of Alberto Manzi, the scholars gathered in Naples addressed the phenomenon that affects minors starting from research and pedagogical planning to combat educational poverty and school dropout”.
