Giammiglione landfill: CISL requests an urgent meeting with Governor Occhiuto. “Enough poisons on Crotone”

«The resumption of the Giammiglione landfill project in Crotone, on the agenda of the Services Conference convened for June 26th, risks representing a defeat for the entire territory. The reasons for concern which, as trade union organisations, we had represented to the President of the Region Roberto Occhiuto, to whom we had asked for an urgent meeting on the subject of the remediation of the abandoned industrial sites of Crotone, are confirmed. We now expect the governor, starting from the meeting with the regional trade union organizations, to clearly and determinedly highlight his opposition to a project that aims to dispose of toxic and dangerous waste as well as solid municipal waste. Times are very tight, which is why the urgency of a meeting with President Occhiuto on the Crotone dispute is becoming increasingly pressing, so that all the institutional and social forces of the territory return to a common front against an initiative that risks further affecting a territory which must develop its tourist and productive potential, not be transformed into a landfill in which to dispose of poisons from all over the world.” This is what Daniele Gualtieri, general secretary of the CISL Magna Grecia of Catanzaro-Crotone-Vibo Valentia, states.
