As Don Giovanni Zampapriest of the Diocese of Foligno, coordinator of the regional pastoral secretariat of the Umbrian Episcopal Conference (Ceu), presided over by Monsignor Renato Boccardospeaking at the Pastoral Council which took place in Assisi.

“Some estimates – continues Don Zampa – speak of around 100 thousand people a day who will cross the four Holy Doors of the Roman Papal Basilicas, preceded by spiritual and cultural journeys also in Umbria, for a total of over 30 million pilgrims from the five continents, a considerable flow not only in groups, but also individuals and families who organize themselves privately”. “Pilgrims of hope” is the “motto” of the 2025 Jubilee, also celebrated in each Diocese, from 29 December 2024 to the Epiphany of 2026.

“A theme, that of “Hope”, which must also be concretized through certain places present in each of the Umbrian diocesan communities – continues the CEU -: from prison to charity canteens, to solidarity emporiums, from oratories to works of art. The Umbrian Dioceses have already received initial contacts from other Dioceses, including foreign ones, for the reception of pilgrims”. “We – hopes Don Giovanni Zampa – must be well prepared and trained to welcome, while at the same time highlighting our spiritual, social, artistic and cultural heritage”. In this regard, various initiatives will be promoted in each of the eight Umbrian Dioceses (info on Chiesainumbria.it).
