Third and final stop in Varese on Thursday 27 June for “Unusual Places, Extraordinary Shows: Neighborhoods in Concert”, the event with which the Lombardy Region brings great classical music to the suburbs.

After the concerts in Bergamo and Milan, the new event is scheduled in the Sangallo district of Varese, in via Borromini 35, with an afternoon concert (6.30 pm) organized by the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala dedicated to young people and families to offer a unique cultural experience, involving citizens and bringing people closer together through the beauty and communicative power of music.

A Wind Ensemble and a Brass Ensemble from the Orchestra will animate the urban spaces with evocative and engaging soundscapes. The musical performances – such as the medley from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story or excerpts from the soundtracks of 8½ and Fellini’s La strada composed by Nino Rota – will be accompanied by the story of the professions of the show, with stands dedicated to the discovery of the various disciplines.

The initiative brings classical music to non-traditional places, to involve, bring closer and fascinate residents with the music of great composers. The neighborhoods of the suburbs thus become agoras, transformed into concert halls, places of sociality and sharing, where music can express its wonderful universal language and its ability to encourage aggregation and public participation.

“Unusual Places, Extraordinary Shows. Quartieri in Concerto” is an experimental initiative that aims to be a cultural welfare tool for the community, promoted by the Lombardy Region in collaboration with the Aler (Lombardy Companies for Residential Building) of Milan, Bergamo and Varese and the I Pomeriggi Foundations Musicals, Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Choir of Milan and the Teatro alla Scala Academy of Arts and Crafts. All scheduled concerts are free and open to the public, subject to availability.

COUNCILOR CARUSO – “For culture to be appreciated and enjoyed not only by enthusiasts – declared the regional councilor for Culture, Francesca Caruso – it must leave the spaces that are traditionally associated with it. And it is precisely this open dialogue with the Lombard cities that best represents one of the cornerstones of the Region’s way of acting. The initiative has among its objectives the fight against social hardship, reaching the suburbs and unusual contexts for a classical music show. A more incisive way to reach potential spectators who, we hope, will also become protagonists of theatrical scenes. Inside and outside the theatres”.

COUNCILOR FRANCO – “To improve Lombardy’s housing services there are various paths and I intend to follow them all – said the regional councilor for Housing and Social Housing, Paolo Franco – as promised when I launched ‘Mission Lombardy’. If on the one hand we work to modernize the apartments, streamline the assignment procedures and renovate entire blocks, on the other hand we want the Aler neighborhoods to be places of sharing, safe and with all the necessary services. Culture is also part of this path, because it creates aggregation, inclusion and sharing of spaces and emotions. There must no longer be ghetto areas, but places where people interact with each other and with institutions with the aim of instilling the value of the common good”.
