[MARSALA] The patron saint John the Baptist writes to the citizens: “do your part…”

A second letter signed by the co-patron John the Baptist. A text which, between the lines, acts as a goad to all the people of Marsala to invite them “to do their part”. Conflicts, first and foremost. «I think you also often feel a sense of helplessness in the face of political decisions that exceed your ability to intervene. I would therefore like to invite you not to tire of praying for peace and demonstrating publicly so that diplomatic action and negotiations between countries in conflict may be strengthened and take precedence, possibly under the aegis of international institutions”, writes the co-patron. Hence the invitation to be “artisans of peace” in families, in kinship contexts, in work environments, in social relationships, avoiding indifference.

But the letter refers to the urgency of caring for our planet, of the “common home”: «apart from the solutions studied by governments and international conferences, which so far are proceeding very slowly, you citizens can do so much by adopting more sober, more essential lifestyles, careful to avoid “sin” of waste, at a personal, family and community level (waste of food, water, energy, technology and more) and not to indulge the consumerist logic of disposable products”. Last but not least, the commitment to the city. Hence the co-patron’s invitation to his fellow citizens: «It would be important for you to dedicate yourselves to the care, in your city-territory, of the environments and spaces of public use, to make them tidier and cleaner, more inviting, more responsive to common needs of beauty. This too is a way of praising and thanking the Creator.”
