San Pietro Apostolo, municipality located at 750 m. on the slopes of Sila, small, delightful…welcoming with a truly proactive population
Also this year and for the 14th edition the cherry festival.
Already from 11:00 on the streets of this beautiful town, you can feel the festive air… the stalls display various masterfully prepared local products, many of which are based on cherries.
There are stalls displaying wooden artefacts, woven baskets, and beautiful fabric works themed around this unique and tasty fruit. A colorful celebration with lots of warmth emanating from the people of San Pietro, who welcome everyone with big smiles and lots of affection.
Lots of fun for the children, who were able, in the “eventour” park, to enjoy inflatables, and watch the soap bubble show, in short there is something for all tastes…from the first timid edition of this festival here is the Pro- led by Professor Rosetta Mazza, she was able to gradually transform it into a beautiful celebration where her Majesty the cherry reigns, teasing and delighting the palates of adults and children.
The Callipo company is also present in this moment of celebration, in fact the cherry ice cream bears its signature! So while enjoying the ice cream you absolutely don’t feel the heat (but the climate of San Pietro is delicious) nor the fatigue… because it is a must to reach Palazzo Mazza, a historic stately building worth visiting to enjoy its suggestive interiors which is nearby .
Here we can admire a painting exhibition and an exhibition of period costumes made by the expert hands of a local lady.
The party doesn’t end, now after the final dances of the giants of Varapodio who enlivened the afternoon, we can follow the good smell coming from the tasting counter… sandwiches galore and much more, and so while we savor these delicious foods we can continue to stroll among the stalls that truly display wonders!
Soon the show of popular dances will begin, cheerful music, music of popular culture throughout the evening, and also the tasting of the cherry tart appropriately portioned and offered by the entire pro-loco staff.
The notes, the songs, still envelop St. Peter the Apostle who is now even more fascinating, the sun has long gone to sleep… the lights that accompany us towards the lottery draw which offers valuable prizes are the masters including a beautiful journey!
The curtain falls on this edition, and we’ll see you again next year.
