The delicate moment which is going through the agricultural sector and the strong need to start a phase in which to bring ideas and projects to fruition were the themes at the center of the participatory provincial assembly of the federation of Coldiretti Ferrara.

The meeting has been organised last June 12thalso in the presence of the area secretaries and officials of the Este federation.

President Federico Fugaroli underlined the mandate received from the organization in recent months during the numerous meetings in the area and that “now it must translate from listening to action, deploying all our capacity and associative strength to close issues that have been on the table for too long“.

One of which concerns invasive wildlife, particularly i wild boars, to reduce their heavy impact on the agricultural economy, both for direct damage and for the possible contamination of pig farms with ASF, in addition to the damage and problems for the citizens themselves. The damage caused by wild animals amount to 200 million euros per year with a verified population of more than 2.3 million wild boars throughout Italy. The problem linked to wild boars is not new, but in recent years it has become increasingly critical.

There uncontrolled proliferation of these animals has caused significant damage in many regions of Italy, bringing numerous farms to their knees. The economic losses are huge: devastated fields, crops mowed down and damaged infrastructure. In addition to the economic damage, the presence of wild boars represents a serious danger to public safety. Numerous road accidentssome of which even mortalsare caused by wild boars crossing urban and rural roads.

The organization therefore requires rapid interventions and extraordinary regional containment plans to guarantee the safety of crops and livestock, as required by art. 19ter of Law 157/1992. Although the Ferrara area is currently less directly affected, Coldiretti Ferrara also stands alongside the other territories to give its contribution and solidarity in encouraging the right solution to this problem, as a bridgehead to address subsequent issues.

The president finally communicated to the assembly the request for a meeting with the prefect of Ferrara to explain the situation and request institutional supportas well as ensuring full support for the mobilization which will continue until what is due to farmers, breeders and citizens is obtained.
