Former Torino coach Gianni de Biasi turns 66 today

Former Torino coach Gianni De Biasi turns 68 today, 16 June. Born in Sarmede in the province of Treviso in 1956, he took his first steps in the world of football wearing the shirt of numerous Italian clubs, finding the greatest number of appearances between Brescia and Palermo. He ended his playing career at Bassano Virtus in 1990, choosing to embark on a new path as a coach. He started from the youth teams of Bassano Virtus and Vicenza, then went on to coach the First Team of various clubs around Italy, including Carpi, Cosenza, Spal, Modena and Brescia. His experience in the Granata began in 2005, the year in which Urbano Cairo became president. De Biasi achieved third place in Serie B and qualified for the playoffs for promotion to Serie A, achieved thanks to the success against Mantova. The 2007-2008 season was more troubled. De Biasi was sacked after the elimination in the Italian Cup before the start of Serie A, he was then recalled for the last part of the championship with the aim of saving the Granata, which he achieved. He then moved to Levante, but in 2008 he returned to the court of Urbano Cairo, with the club once again having to try not to be relegated and obtaining another salvation. De Biasi continued to lead Torino in the following season, 2008/2009, but was then sacked after the defeat against Fiorentina. In that same year, Torino, after changing 3 coaches in one season, was relegated to Serie B. In the Granata he made a total of 82 appearances. His coaching career subsequently continued between clubs and national teams: from 2011 to 2017 he led Albania, from 2020 to 2023 he was coach of Azerbaijan.
