Melvin Jones Park returned to the city

Yesterday morning at 11, with a ribbon cutting after two months of open construction, the park on the corner between Viale Raniero Capocci and Via Fratelli Rosselli, named after the founder of the Lions Club, Melvin Jones, was returned to the people of Viterbo.

The green area adjacent to the city walls has been redeveloped by the Frontini administration, thanks to Pnrr funds with an intervention that is part of the restructuring plan of the Ecology walk project, which should be definitively launched in the coming months.

The inauguration date was chosen precisely because twenty years ago, the then mayor Gabbianelli presented the small, newly redeveloped park to the people of Viterbo, naming it at the same time after the founder of the Lions.

Immediately afterwards, a monument dedicated to the donors of the Admo was inaugurated in the small area.

Yesterday morning at the ribbon cutting together with the mayor Chiara Frontini, not only the authors of the current project were present, but also the actors of the 2004 redevelopment, including: the former mayor Gabbianelli and the then president of the Lions Luigi Pasqualetti, today at the top of the Carivit foundation.

Also holding the scissors are the current president of Lions Viterbo Francesco Cima, the councilor for urban planning Emanuele Aronne and Paola Massarelli president of Admo Viterbo.

«Today we inaugurate this new version of the park exactly 20 years after the first ribbon cutting of the Melvin Jones park – said Frontini – for this occasion we wanted to bring together here all those who are the supporters of today’s project and those of the creation of the park back then . The redevelopment of this renovated park that we are giving back to the people of Viterbo today is only a small part of the ecological walk of the walls project.”

During his speech, Gabbianelli congratulated the mayor for the work she is carrying out together with her administration: “For the first time in years I am seeing the city reborn – he said – and I thank the Frontini administration for this”. Then referring to twenty years earlier when, in his capacity as mayor, he had inaugurated version 1.0 of the park, «I don’t want to nail Chiara to this role for another 20 years – he explained – but I hope that in twenty years there will be a mayor with the sensitivity and the care for Viterbo that Chiara Frontini and her administration are now showing, despite the difficulties.”
