ROME – There is Lavinia, civil rights activist and new mother, there are Marina and Mario, who have returned home after many years in the north, there is John, who has lived there for 40 years and there is Karina, who studies at university. Who stays, who returns, who arrives. All haunted by the same question: “Why in Calabria?”. An unexpected choice, explained with these words by the anthropologist Vito Teti: “You don’t stay completely, you never completely leave. Life is always elsewhere.” But there is a lot of life in this city of the “north of the south”. He tells it Alessandro Nucci from Cosenza, author of the doc “Cosenza, Cosangeles”, broadcast on Sunday 16 June at 10.10pm on Rai 5. Its inhabitants like to call it Cosangeles. A coined crasisaccording to the journalist Paride Leporace, by the actor Peppino Picciotto while talking to Ornella Muti and Paolo Villaggio, who chat about their great travels: “I am from Cosangeles, near San Francisco de Paola”.
In the claim to this provinciality there is all the cosmopolitan spirit of the city. A place where the historic center is next to and not in the middle of the urban centre, giving rise to a dichotomy and the abandonment of the old city, where not even the people of Cosenza walk anymore. Nowadays, we only meet there on February 12th to celebrate the Madonna of Pilerio, protector of Cosenza.
