(ANSA) – PERUGIA, JUNE 15 – With the exhibition dedicated to Mario Merz “If the form disappears, its root is eternal”, at the Rocca Albornoz in Spoleto, “The thin line of Umbria” was inaugurated, the new proposal cultural for the summer in the region. With a total of 25 places of culture involved including museums, archaeological sites and parks.
A “thin line” but with two paths that intertwine.
Thanks to “system” work, from 15 June, for the first time, with a single 15 euro ticket it will also be possible to visit the 14 national museums of Umbria for around four months, where, until 6 October, they will alternate contemporary art interventions that will stimulate the gaze and mind of the public, including large exhibitions, performances and new installations designed specifically for the different sites. Archaeological parks, Etruscan and Lombard treasures, masterpieces between the Middle Ages and Baroque, prehistoric finds and wonderful Renaissance gardens will be enriched by the dialogue with the work of masters of our time.
Every weekend until July 27th new exhibitions will be inaugurated in the 14 museums of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, while between July and September another 10 spread across the territory participating in the regional “MuseiON” project will be animated by the interventions of two Umbrian artistic collectives thanks to performances and on-site opera productions, with the addition of a special project.
The offer called “The thin line of Umbria” is therefore characterized in this way, the new project of the General Directorate of Museums of the Mic, National Museums of Perugia – Regional Directorate of National Museums of Umbria and of the Umbria Region, with the contribution of the Council of Casse di Risparmio Umbre Foundations and the collaboration of Radio Subasio.
Not a widespread project “but a systemic one”, as underlined by the director of the Umbrian museums Costantino D’Orazio during the presentation of the project he coordinated and of Merz’s first exhibition. “A compelling initiative that involves material aspects, places of culture, and immaterial aspects, the relationship between past and present” he said.
A “doubly praiseworthy” operation for the president of the Umbria Region, Donatella Tesei. “First of all – he said – because the thread that will link these museums testifies to the contemporary liveliness of Umbria, a fertile land of suggestions and connections. Secondly because it is proof of the presence in the territory of realities which, in their diversity of landscape, atmosphere, heritage, manage to find a common language capable of attracting national and international audiences, encouraging the desire to return to Umbria several times”.
The first major exhibition is therefore the one dedicated to Mario Merz (1925-2003), who until 6 October is the protagonist at the Rocca di Spoleto with an exhibition created in collaboration with the Merz Foundation of Turin, as he recalled during the inauguration Beatrice Merz. The Courtyard of Honor and the two monumental halls of the fortress will host some of the most significant historical installations by the artist, master of Arte Povera. (HANDLE).
