Latina / Shooting in Via Ariosto… but it’s a false alarm: noises caused by falling books

LATINA – Late this morning, an alarm went off in via Ariosto in Latina, generating a massive intervention by the police and rescuers. Fortunately, thanks to the scrupulous verification activity of the Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Latina, it was possible to exclude that shots had been fired. The report that had made people fear the worst turned out to be a false alarm.

The events began when some residents misinterpreted loud noises coming from an apartment building. In reality, it wasn’t gunshots, but rather the thud of some books falling or thrown to the ground. These sounds, combined with the screams of a woman involved in a family dispute, led witnesses to believe that an extremely serious situation was taking place.

The Carabinieri, supported by the soldiers of the Radiomobile Operations Unit and by the patrols of the Latina and Borgo Grappa station commands, promptly started the investigations. Emergency medical workers also intervened on site, prepared to manage any injuries caused by an alleged shooting. In addition, the Fire Brigade, with a team from the provincial command and the ladder truck, checked from the windows that everything in the surrounding apartments was in order, also considering the uninhabited appearance of some buildings.

After careful checks, it emerged that the alarm was unfounded. Despite this, the military continues to carry out investigations to verify whether there were other crimes linked to the event. This episode underlines the importance of the timely and accurate verification activity of the police, who quickly restored calm and ascertained the truth of the facts.
