FOLIGNO (Perugia) – Just under 24 hours and the time for comparisons in view of the run-offs on 23 and 24 June will end. In Foligno, where the outgoing mayor Stefano Zuccarini (centre-right) and the former director of the diocesan Caritas, Mauro Masciotti (centre-left) will compete. The meetings between the parties, as the time available was running out, became even more intense and the pressure of the two main coalitions intensified to bring Enrico Presilla, the mayoral candidate of Popular Alternative who collected an excellent 6, to their side. percent, a safe seat in the city council and the investiture at the tip of the scales.
The first to make his voice heard was Masciotti late on Friday evening: «We give credit to Enrico Presilla for having interpreted the discontent and the distance perceived by the citizens with respect to the outgoing municipal administration and we ask him to vouch for the institutional authority of the city council”. An almost identical appeal was instead launched by Zuccarini on Saturday morning. According to the mayor, with the AP candidate “there are common fundamental and non-negotiable values as well as the possibility of convergence on the main programmatic points”. Presilla, Zuccarini continues, offers «the right guarantees of authority and impartiality to assume a role of institutional guarantee». Translated from Italian into political jargon, both the centre-left and the centre-right, in the event of victory for both, offer him the possibility of playing an authoritative and third role, most likely that of president of the city assembly.
Winks are also directed at Moreno Finamonti, who ranked fourth with 3.6. Masciotti says: «We recognize Moreno Finamonti for the result he achieved by interpreting citizens’ requests, including those relating to the issue we particularly feel about healthcare and its current serious shortcomings».
