The Agrigento Social Cartel makes an appeal to the President of the Region, Renato Schifani, to urge him to respond quickly and urgently to deal with the water crisis.
“Discontent and anger – we read in a note from the acronym which brings together unions and dioceses – are expressed by people who feel ridiculed and who are tired of ephemeral promises, as could be seen from the popular demonstration which brought over 2,000 people.”

Don Mario Sorce and the trade unionists Alfonso Buscemi, Paolo Ottaviano and Gero Acquisto ask for Schifani’s intervention to mediate in relation to the dispute between Siciliacque and Aica.
“At the same time – they add – we would like to point out that an intervention by the civil protection cannot be further postponed so that the Porto Empedocle watermaker is restored with an emergency procedure in order to face the current emergency also in view of the next summer months in which the population watches with many fears”.

The social cartel continues: “The idea of putting the Porto Empedocle plant back into operation is fully shared by the mayor of Agrigento and the entire community but the problem remains that of the time required to put it back into operation and this is why it is called for the civil protection which can act with great speed. Acting as interpreters of the requests received from a large part of the population, we ask you for a meeting so that we can learn from the most authoritative interlocutors on the issue in order – conclude the representatives of the body – to bring about make people aware of what the regional government is preparing to do and in order to calm people down and prevent there being an escalation of tension”.
