Crossed paths. For ten players who will leave the rossoblù dressing room at the end of their respective loans (Antonucci, Canotto, Crespi, Fontanarosa, Forte, Frabotta, Mazzocchi, Praszelik, Viviani, Zuccon), six will return. Their future at Cosenza, however, still remains to be deciphered.
At the top of the list is Christian D’Urso. The Rietinian is the market sacrifice made a year ago to create the salary margin necessary to perfect the latest market moves (Gemmi took Forte and Canotto on the last day of summer negotiations). Triestina’s failure to promote meant that the redemption conditional on reaching Serie B was lost. The player, who still has a twelve-month contract with the rossoblù, is coming off a good season, marked by three goals and nine assists. His technical quality is not in question and, furthermore, he can count on the advantage of already knowing Alvini, who had him with him at Perugia.
He is not the only element among those who will return to base to meet Fucecchio’s coach. Filippo Sgarbi has also already played with him. The defender from Varese moved to Ternana in January, quickly assuming the role of starter with Breda, but at the end of March he stopped due to an injury to the Achilles tendon in his right leg suffered in training. First of all, therefore, the Sila medical staff will have to evaluate his physical condition. He may still need time to fully recover from the injury.
Massimo Zilli will also return to Cosenza. The Friulian striker was not bought out by Spal. However, the Este family are still interested in him and could return to office in July, aiming to close at more economically advantageous figures than what was agreed five months ago. This is because he can take advantage of the fact that the Udine born in 2002 enters his last year of contract. There are also other B and C clubs on Aries.
Andrea Hristov will also return. The Bulgarian was Roberto Goretti’s investment in 2021: over 500 thousand euros to take him from Slavia Sofia. A deal, however, which turned out to be negative for Cosenza, as the defender was not able to assume the importance desired by the Perugian sporting director. Not even in subsequent loans to Reggiana and Potenza, also limited by some injuries, was he able to justify the money spent. It is therefore difficult to see him again with the rossoblù shirt.
Even for Alessandro Arioli and Salvatore Dario La Vardera there shouldn’t be Cosenza in the immediate future. The two went on loan to Monopoli during the winter transfer market without playing much. Both have a contract until 30 June 2026. Together with the agents, the Sila management will look for a solution to allow both to continue the maturation process. However, like the others, they could be part of the list of those called up for the retreat, waiting to find a solution acceptable to all parties involved. A lot of work for the very busy sporting director Gennaro Delvecchio.
