Local health authority Umbria 1 clarifies the Madonna Alta clinic situation

The Umbria 1 Local Health Authority has provided detailed clarifications on the situation of the Madonna Alta Consultancy Centre, one of the historic consultancy structures in the city of Perugia. According to what was communicated by the health company, the building, owned by the municipality and acquired by the Local Health Authority in 2017, had recently been the subject of vandalism on the external walls and was home to a bivouac in the portico in front of the entrance.

To resolve this problem, the Local Health Authority has activated a series of targeted interventions. First of all, only ordinary maintenance was carried out in the external parts while waiting for financing for larger works foreseen pursuant to the art. 20. In the internal part, however, work was carried out from 24 March to 6 May to resolve problems of rainwater infiltration coming from the terraces serving the adjacent Day Center for Disabled People. The interventions involved the re-insulation of the terraces, the restoration of damaged ceilings and walls, the whitewashing of the entire structure and the installation of a video surveillance system to prevent further vandalism.

During the works, the planned activities of the clinic were temporarily moved to other nearby locations, maintaining adequate information for users. The reopening of the service, which took place last May 6th, saw the full restoration of all consultancy activities, including the availability of the clinic for the association “MAKA – Center for Anthropological Studies on bodies, genders and genital modifications”, which takes care of women victims of infibulation.

The Umbria 1 Local Health Authority also wanted to underline that the Madonna Alta Counseling Center is one of the historic structures of the Perugino counseling network, still fully functioning together with other services such as those of Ponte Felcino, Torgiano, Ponte San Giovanni, Castel del Piano, Ellera, San Marco and Via XIV Settembre (whose activities have been temporarily postponed pending the works for the construction of the Community House).

In conclusion, the Umbria 1 Local Health Authority has demonstrated its attention and commitment in guaranteeing the full operation of the Madonna Alta Counseling Centre, intervening promptly to resolve the problems detected and ensuring the continuity of counseling services for the population of the area.
