The intervention plan of the municipal administration of Taranto, which aims at the regeneration and naturalization of the “Paolo VI” neighborhood”, marks a decisive step forward. The head of the Urban Planning Directorate for Major Works and Games of the Mediterranean, Eng. Simona Sasso convened the services conference for the evaluation of the decisions and opinions of all the subjects involved in the implementation of the project which will have to redevelop various areas and public infrastructures of the populous city district.
In fact, on the basis of what the “PINQuaA. Program ID 118 RINATA Paolo VI”, the neighborhood will be subject to a series of significant interventions for a total amount of almost 8 million euros. Specifically, we will proceed with the reconfiguration of the open public spaces of Piazza della Liberazione (a cost of 4,478,971.46 euros has been foreseen for the works) and of the green spaces in the area between via 4 Novembre, viale 2 Giugno and viale of the Republic to which are added the urban gardens, the greenhouse space and the equipped car park (the total amount is equal to one million and 292 thousand 689 euros).
The other planned works will concern, on the one hand, the creation of the cycle-pedestrian itinerary of naturalistic interest towards the Mar Piccolo and the Galeso river, and, on the other, the strengthening of material and immaterial accessibility to the “Paolo VI” district with the reconfiguration and adaptation of the road system between via 4 Novembre and viale 2 Giugno (over one million and 454 thousand euros spent). The subject of the services conference will also be the reconfiguration works of public spaces open to the neighbourhood, in particular the square in front of the ERP building (72 Apartments) in viale 2 Giugno (the amount will be equal to 774,094.96 euros).
The PINQuA Program also includes works that will not be the subject of the convened conference of services such as the recovery and preparation of the former covered market in Viale della Repubblica (3 million euros) or the redevelopment of the public residential building stock, such as the ERP building, 72 apartments, in viale Due Giugno (2,900,000 euros). Interventions that demonstrate the great attention of the municipal administration towards urban regeneration projects, especially those concerning the peripheral areas of the city.
