Today, Saturday 15 June, the newly elected MEP is expected to arrive in Italy Ilaria Salis, the teacher and activist who was detained for about 16 months in Budapest, Hungary. After his election to the European Parliament, on the lists of Greens and Left Alliancethe Hungarian justice recognized herparliamentary immunity which is the right of every European parliamentarian and has ordered his release. Salis should be accompanied by her father in the afternoon to her house in Monza.

Uncertain outcome
The outcome of the judicial question which occupied the Italian and Hungarian diplomacies for months was not a given. Hungary, after the election, could have asked European Parliament the lifting of parliamentary immunity. A possibility raised by the head of cabinet of the Hungarian government Gergely Gulyas. But in the end, nothing materialized.
The arrest
Salis was arrested on 11 February 2023 together with some German anti-fascist militants for a series of attacks to the detriment of some right-wing extremists who, between 9 and 12 February, were celebrating the Honor Dayan event in which every year thousands of neo-Nazis celebrate the Nazi battalion that in 1945 opposed the siege of Budapest by the Red Army.
