Nicola Procaccini in concert for IL SOUND OF STONE

The organ project “THE SOUND OF STONE – Concert itinerary from Gargano to Salento” organized by the Camerata Musicale Barese and co-financed by the Puglia Foundation.
On Sunday 16 June at 8pm, at the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, Nicola Procaccini, one of the most interesting organists of the new generation, will be the protagonist of the penultimate event of the event.
With an international formation between Germany, France and Japan, Procaccini has undertaken an interesting concert activity both as a soloist and in the field of ensemble music on ancient instruments.
For the occasion, he will give voice to the imposing “Bossi Vegezzi” organ of the Cathedral of Altamura, an instrument with three thousand pipes built in 1880, according to the canons of the Lombard-Venetian school, or as an instrument suitable for performing music of opera and which therefore had to be equipped with all the sounds present in the orchestra and band.
The program “Concerts of all sorts of instruments on the organ” is a hymn to the timbral complexity of the “king of instruments”. Works by Muffat, Bach, Mozart, Morandi and Valerj will be performed. Specifically, the program will open with Georg Muffat’s Toccata Eighth, an eloquent example of the Baroque style, with its combination of technical precision and emotional expressiveness; three works by Johann Sebastian Bach will follow: the first, “Pièce d’Orgue”, is one of his most famous compositions for organ, also known as “Fantasy in G major”, whose conclusion, grandiose and triumphant with powerful chords and harmonies , will make the entire sound range of the organ resonate; the second, “Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier” is a famous religious hymn, a prayer of adoration and thanksgiving addressed to Jesus Christ, with a typically baroque, solemn and contemplative melody; the third is his organ transcription of Alessandro Marcello’s Oboe Concerto in D. The concert program will continue with the famous “Andante in F major, KV 616”, a composition conceived for mechanical organ, a Sonata “for the Human Voice” by Valerj and two compositions by Pietro and Giovanni Morandi which reflect the dominant influence of the national melodrama and which will highlight the potential of Altamura’s monumental instrument.

Entrance for all those who wish to take part in this sound journey is free.
