Pescara. Extraordinary checks yesterday evening by the Pescara police in the resulting area, at the Bus Terminal and the adjacent public gardens, and in the area close to Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Via Silvio Pellico and Piazza Martiri Pennesi.

The service was ordered by the Police Commissioner Carlo Solimene following the decisions taken during the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security on 6 June, chaired by the Prefect Flavio Ferdani, who, paying the utmost attention to the sensitive areas of the city, examined the critical issues of the area in question, establishing the intensification of surveillance and control activities through targeted services constantly carried out by the local police forces.

Also within the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, a calendar of dedicated prevention services has been arranged which will be carried out by all the police forces also assisted by the Local Police and the bodies involved due to the specificity of the controls. The operational strategies were defined during the Technical Roundtable held at the Police Headquarters the following day.

Last night’s service, like those that will follow, was aimed at preventing and combating illegality, with particular regard to crimes against the person, crimes of a predatory nature, drug dealing and illegal immigration and is was carried out by State Police personnel with the active contribution of the Municipal Police, the personnel of the Labor Inspectorate and the ASL of Pescara, who intervened for the activities of specific competence in the checks on public businesses in the area carried out by the Administrative Team of the Police Headquarters and by the Municipal Police.

Three refreshment areas serving food and drinks and a bar were inspected. The ASL staff belonging to the Animal Origin Food Hygiene Service proceeded with the immediate closure of a catering business after having found serious hygienic-sanitary deficiencies that jeopardized the wholesomeness of the food and safety for the consumer. In this regard, approximately 6 kilos of frozen meat and fish without identifying elements for traceability purposes were also seized and sent for destruction. Fines were high for administrative violations.

In another commercial activity, the ASL staff detected minor discrepancies which have been subject to requirements, compliance with which will be verified in the next few days during a verification check.

The Labor Inspectorate staff detected two violations due to the lack of authorization of the video surveillance systems: in a public catering establishment, the irregular presence of two workers was noted, one of whom was illegal and therefore their deferred closure was ordered .

During the service, the Police Headquarters’ anti-drug dog units were used to search for drugs. A man was found in possession of hashish for personal use and, therefore, reported to the Administrative Authority with seizure of the narcotic substance.

The prevention action was implemented through the identification of people, the control of vehicles, bags and luggage. Overall, 218 people were identified, 37 of which had police records and several people were accompanied to the police station for identification procedures; 74 vehicles were checked and several checkpoints carried out. Administrative seizures were carried out, public businesses were checked, criminal and administrative sanctions were imposed as well as fines to the Highway Code.
