LEGNANO – L’AC Legnano he sails in turbulent waters to say the least, submerged in a sea of debts that seem insurmountable. Stephen Vercellottiformer team manager of the club, expressed a very harsh assessment of the team’s financial situation, declaring on “Il Giorno” that the chances of salvation for Aeneas Blessed, current president, are practically nil. “Legnano is submerged in debt and in my opinion the chances for Enea Benedetto to save it are zero,” said Vercellotti, bringing to light alarming figures despite the president’s recent admissions regarding the debt of over three hundred thousand euros. The now former Lill manager claims that the actual debts are much higher, perhaps even doubling the declared sum.
The situation is made worse by back wages for players, some of whom have not received payments for months, and by four coaches having their contracts terminated during the season. Additionally, the company is dealing with demands for back rent payments dating back to 2022 and last year. Benedetto, who had assumed office without full awareness of the extent of the debt and now finds himself in an even more serious situation: “Enea signed without even seeing how much the actual debt was, which should have been around 40,000 euros for four months.“, declared Vercellotti.
Enea Benedetto: if Legnano fails it won’t be my fault
With Benedetto’s shares seized by the investigating judge of Alessandria in an investigation that also involves Alessandria football, the road to bankruptcy seems inevitable. “If we end up bankrupt, it won’t be my fault, because I haven’t made a single euro of these debts, in fact I’m paying them off. The responsibility lies with the previous ownership and we are trying together to find a solution,” Benedetto declared in recent days, even if the prospect of a solution seems increasingly distant.
The freezing of shares prevents the sale of the club and precludes the possibility of reaching an agreement with the municipality for the management of the stadium. A further complication could emerge if the sale of the club were to materialize: the previous president, Emiliano Mountaineersmay exercise rights on the sale under previous agreements.
Vercellotti also revealed, again from the columns of “Il Giorno”, that an agreement had been reached with the players for the payment of 47% of the arrears, but no concrete steps were taken to formalize it, leaving the players waiting for payments not yet carried out. “I don’t see how Legnano can do it” concluded the former Lilac Team Manager, underlining the management’s inaction in managing this financial crisis.
