Recently, the city of Avellino has experienced a period of intense political activity culminating in the election of Laura Nargi as the new mayor. The Prefect of Avellino, His Excellency Rossana Reflex, followed the elections closely, a period characterized by moments of tension. During the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Guardia di Finanza, we had the opportunity to interview the Prefect to collect his impressions and his statements regarding this important event for the Avellino community. “The election period is always a time of great participation and interest for the community. However, unfortunately, this year we have also witnessed some moments of tension. Laura Nargi’s election was welcomed with enthusiasm by many citizens, and I am confident that the new mayor will be able to lead the city with wisdom and dedication.”
The Avellino Police Headquarters is examining the events following Laura Nargi’s victory in the ballot, which took place on Monday afternoon. The ongoing investigations, also based on videos and interventions by the staff of Via Palatucci, focus on what happened near Antonio Gengaro’s Election Committee in Piazza Libertà. Numerous media outlets documented the clash between supporters of the two factions, which occurred after fireworks were exploded near the defeated coalition’s committee.

I heard that the newly elected mayor also invited and promised that there will be a calmer and more peaceful situation, and I am sure that he will keep faith with this promise. Then, it is clear, these are things that concern the first days. I am sure that these situations will diminish and will be carefully followed, because this is certain.”
In addition to this episode, the investigations also concern what happened the same afternoon in Via Scandone, under the home of former mayor Gianluca Festa, currently under house arrest. Again, images of the events – including smoke bombs, batteries of exploded fireworks and the road blocked – circulated widely on the web. The Police is examining all these elements and will subsequently inform the Avellino Public Prosecutor’s Office. “I am waiting for the proclamation.
