Terni: short-cycle multidisciplinary surgery, reference point for training

The short-cycle Multidisciplinary Surgery of the Terni hospital is increasingly a point of reference also for training.

In recent days, in fact, the students of the advanced training master’s degree in Ambulatory Surgery and Day Surgery, within the National Hospital School of Surgery ACOI (Association of Italian Hospital Surgeons), completed the practical training course in the Simple Departmental Structure of Multidisciplinary Surgery in Short cycle, directed by Dr. Claudio Nazzaro, with the training support of the medical director of Santa Maria Pietro Manzi and the medical director of the unit Massimo Rizzo.

An experience carried out together with Dr. Costanza Bisordi of the medical management of the new Apuane hospital in Marina di Massa, with Dr. Claudia Dal Conte, surgeon of the San Paolo hospital in Milan, with Dr. Filippo De Pasquale of the hospital in Frosinone, Dr. Marco Mocci of the Cagliari hospital.

The Short Cycle Multidisciplinary Surgery of the Terni hospital has in fact been recognized as an accredited National Teaching Center for the Higher Education course of the Association of Hospital Surgeons.

This is an important certification that allows this structure to be a place for training and dissemination of good practices for surgeons, anesthetists, medical management doctors and nurses, to develop the technical and management skills necessary to safely organize the care path in the settings of short-course surgery.

It is a strategic training path if we consider that 75% of surgical interventions require a post-operative stay of less than 5 days and that the differentiation of the surgical offer in different care settings (Outpatient Surgery, Complex Outpatient Surgery, Day Surgery, Week Surgery ) has revolutionized the organization of surgical departments with the aim of improving the quality of care according to the principle of intensity of care based on the complexity of care.

Among the main objectives of the ACOI school is to stimulate the widespread adoption of clinical governance tools and to deepen the surgical and anesthetic techniques relating to the main interventions that can be carried out in short-cycle surgery (also providing elements for an adequate choice of innovative devices suitable to allow the early discharge of patients), while also promoting the acquisition of non-technical skills.

“Having hosted motivated professionals from four Italian regions for the internship – highlight Dr. Nazzaro and Dr. Taizzani – is a source of pride and satisfaction for us. Being recognized as an ACOI national training center determines for all of us operators of Multidisciplinary Short Cycle Surgery at Santa Maria di Terni not only the opportunity to host and transmit our efficient organizational model to high-level colleagues, but also that of an interchange fundamental, in terms of relationships, knowledge and skills, to continue moving in a national network system capable of guaranteeing professional growth and cultural development”.
