“The importance of the art of discernment”. The Archbishop of Reggio Emilia and Guastalla Giacomo Morandi focused on this theme in the homily of the evening Mass celebrated in Sant’Agostino on Friday 14 June, with which he opened the 40th Catholic Action Festival held.

These forty years of Festcontro, explained the head of the Reggio Emilia church, “must be a propitious time to understand and read the signs of God in Catholic Action”.

“Here Catholic Action must be effective in spiritual life, in action for good. Many are experts in the conversion of others, but instead it is a priority to remove the plank from one’s own eye rather than the speck in that of others.”

And again: “The decline in attendance at Mass, the lower presence of women in the parish, the individualism that is often found even in the liturgical assembly, the making of the Eucharistic celebration “attractive” for adolescents and young people, the “liturgical mortality”, the urgency that faith prompts us to ask ourselves existential questions, charity and inclusiveness were extensively addressed in the debate, which concluded with the indication that Catholic Action must be “associations of true Christians”.

After the celebration, the archbishop blessed and inaugurated the fortieth edition of the Festcontro with a ribbon cutting at Campo Tocci.
