The values of democratic Catholicism and secular reformism. This is the title of the conference promoted by the Vera Nocentini Foundation and organized by the ACLI, the CISL and Confcooperative of Cuneo which took place today, 14 June, at the Rondo’ dei Talenti in Cuneo.

The Conference began with welcome greetings and an introduction by Marcello Maggio of the Vera Nocentini Cuneo Association and a brief testimony by Claudia Carli, daughter of Bruno Carli, former General Secretary of CISL Cuneo.

Present and speaking were Monsignor Piero Delbosco Bishop of the Diocese of Cuneo Fossano and for the municipality of Cuneo the councilor Sara Tomatis and Mauro Bernardi of the CRC Foundation.

The first part was dedicated to the theme “The transition of the 80s / 90s” with the interventions of Antonio Degiacomi: from strong conflict to concertation and Giovenale Gerbaudo: cooperation towards the new challenges of the social economy

Andrea Olivero was instead entrusted with the theme: from the crisis of politics to the protagonism of the third sector

The morning was interspersed with the testimonies of: Giovanni Quaglia former President of the Province of Cuneo, Mino Taricco former President of Confcooperative.

The second part with the title “What prospects for Social Organizations” was presented by Marta Margotti who addressed the topic: Catholics and work are a controversial relationship.

The morning ended with a round table attended by Enrico Solavagione, General Secretary of CISL Cuneo together with Sandro Durando (Vice Pres. Deputy Confcooperative Piedmont South), Elio Lingua (Pres. Acli Cuneo).

Claudia Carli’s testimony was very moving, remembering her father Bruno: “The values of democratic Catholicism and secular reformism” values in which our father strongly believed and which fortunately for us he passed on to us. The commitment he has always made in pursuing these values, the continuous activity in the defense of workers’ rights, the Union, the school of Florence and his continuous training. His commitment to politics, the Workers’ Statute that he kept on his bedside table next to the Gospel. That house, the Union, which was home for him but also for us, always.”

At the end, the General Secretary of CISL Cuneo Enrico Solavagione he has declared: “The morning was extremely interesting. A morning in which a historical excursus was essential to understand the work, not only in this province but in these organizations and associations of ours.

Listening to the three reports one understands how difficult a period the 70s and 80s were, both in the social and economic fields.

The clear model and the political references that were able to be represented were values that united us: CISL, ACLI and Confcooperaive. We must return to common sensitivity, to fight economic and social inequalities. We must collaborate together to propose references that will defeat youth suffering and the abandonment of the elderly. The values of those years must be re-proposed and young people must be involved

The values carried forward in the 80s were the basis for actions to resolve the problems that people felt.”

“The conference was a successful event,” declared Marcello Maggio. The three organizations Acli, Cisl, Cnfcooperative met to reflect, also from a historical point of view, on a period, the 80s and 90s of the last century, which was crucial, a period which also produced profound changes in our provincial reality. Charismatic leaders accompanied and guided that change, among others Bruno Carli and Beppe Andreis, who had roles in the various organizations testifying to their common values, those values that refer to social Catholicism and which still today inspire Acli, Cisl, Confcooperatve. Even today, as in those years, it is important that the three organizations concretely consolidate common paths towards shared objectives. Together they can truly make an important contribution to the social growth of the area, above all in the interests of the people they represent”.
