Trenitalia Regionale, a company of the FS Group, launches a new holiday connection with the Capital and “the train of the sea”. These are the main innovations in Umbria of the Trenitalia Summer Experience 2024 which at a national level provides new connections to summer tourist destinations, cities of art and villages. More intermodal and digital services for the benefit of travellers, to move in an increasingly comfortable and sustainable way, also thanks to new solutions combined with train, bus, ship or plane. Over 700 summer destinations that can be reached every day.

In detail, at a national level, the offer includes more than 270 Frecce every day, for over 130,000 places offered. Intercity and Intercity Notte will travel to more than 230 cities (70 summer destinations). The 6,000 Regional trains per day, present throughout Italy, will reach over 1,700 destinations in a widespread manner, of which 500 are tourist destinations. With the summer offer, Trenitalia Regionale in Umbria confirms itself as the ideal means of transport to discover all the beauties of the Green Heart of Italy, as well as for Umbrian people’s leisure trips to the most attractive destinations in the neighboring regions.

Connections with Rome. From Sunday 9 June, on holidays, connections with Rome have been strengthened. From Perugia, new regional RV 4739 (Perugia 9.22 – Roma Termini 12), main intermediate stops (Perugia PSG 9.37, Assisi 9.49, Foligno 10.06, Spoleto 10.32, Terni 10.55). Furthermore, new regional RV 4762 (Roma Termini 12.22 – Foligno 14.13), main intermediate stops (Terni 13.32, Spoleto 13.56). With the introduction of the two new connections with the Capital, running every month of the year except August, a two-time service will be created on holidays both towards Rome and towards Umbria.

Departures from Perugia with Trenitalia Regionale will therefore be ensured with RV 4723 (Perugia 7.23 – Rome Termini 9.55), RV 4739 (Perugia 9.22 – Rome Termini 12) and RV 4737 (Perugia 11.20 – Rome Termini 14.15). Likewise, departures from Rome will be ensured with RV 4150 (Roma Termini 5.52 – Foligno 7.40 – to Ancona); RV 4726 (Rome Termini 8.15 – Perugia 10.57), RV 4728 (Rome Termini 10.05 – Perugia 12.30) and RV 4762 (Rome Termini 12.22 – Foligno 14.13).

Connections with Florence. Also confirmed are the holiday connections R5115 and R5114 (Foligno ↔ Terontola) which, thanks to the interchanges in Terontola with the trains of the Florence-Rome route, allow you to reach the Tuscan capital from Umbria at 9.52, in the opposite direction, to arrive in Perugia from Tuscany around 9am and, in August, the race will end in Foligno around 10am.

Connections with lake and sea. On holidays from Sunday 16 June to Sunday 1st Septemberthe new “sea train” with which you can reach the first beach in about two hours, without changes: direct connection R4286 from Foligno (7.07), Nocera Umbra (7.24), Gualdo Tadino (7.39), Fossato di Vico – Gubbio (7.48) with the Adriatic coast (Montemarciano (9.19), Marzocca (9.24), Senigallia (9.32), Marotta (9.41), Fano (9.50) and Pesaro (10.01). The ideal solution – for Umbrians who want to enjoy a day to the sea without worrying about traffic and parking; in the evening, departure from Pesaro at 5.19pm and arrival in Foligno at 8.06pm, with all the intermediate stops on the way.

The Trasimeno Line returns again this summer for the fifth consecutive year, playing a leading role for local tourism in the region by circumnavigating Lake Trasimeno. In the 2024 edition, for greater usability also by the Foligno-Assisano basin, all Trasimeno Lines are extended up to Foligno. Furthermore, the extension to Orvieto has also been confirmed for half of the journeys, again without a change, on board the comfortable Jazz trains. The service will run on Saturdays, with 4 connections in addition to the several daily connections with changes in Terontola.

Enhancement of Orvietano and Ternano basin services. From Monday 17 June to Saturday 3 Auguston the Orvieto side, the programming of 4 weekday services has been extended, normally scheduled until 15 June, which would allow new travel combinations for Rome and Terni, in detail:
– Train 18717 (Terontola 1.35pm – Orte 3.03pm) extension of the winter periodicity
– New Train 94872 (Orte 15.15 – Orvieto 15.47) combined with RV 4730 departing at 2.28pm from Rome Termini arriving in Orte at 3.07pm
– New Train 94857 (Orvieto 16.01 – Orte 16.37) in combination at 16.44 with RV 4156 towards Terni and at 17.10 with 4155 towards Rome
– New Train 18718 (Orte 16.54 – Terontola 18.17) combined at 15.58 with RV 4156 departing from Rome Termini arriving in Orte at 16.42
– New Bus PG053 from Terni 2.15pm – Narni 2.40pm – Orte 3.05pm corresponding to 94872
The offer on the national railway line (on the Rome – Florence – Ancona routes) totals 77 regional trains per day this summer, to reach the cities of art such as Perugia, Assisi and Spoleto, the medieval villages such as Narni and Spello, as well as destinations of naturalistic value such as the Clitunno Springs and the Nera gorges.

To encourage leisure mobility towards Lake Trasimeno, Busitalia will strengthen its navigation services throughout the summer: on the Tuoro–Isola Maggiore route on the occasion of the “Moon in June” Festival, while from Tuesday 2 July to Tuesday 27 August An expansion of the daily service is planned for the Castiglione del Lago-Isola Polvese, Passignano sul Trasimeno-Isola Polvese, Passignano sul Trasimeno-Isola Maggiore, Castiglione del Lago-Isola Maggiore routes.

Links Links. Trenitalia Regionale becomes even more widespread with its Links: six destinations in Umbria that are easy to reach by train + bus with Trenitalia intermodal services, created in collaboration with Busitalia. The traditional and most popular: Assisi Link, which arrives in the heart of the City of the Saint; Orvieto Link, with the funicular that takes you to the top of the Etruscan cliff in two minutes. Those particularly welcome in the summer season: Marmore Link, for the famous waterfalls; Piediluco Link, up to the shores of Lake Terni. Without forgetting Spoleto Link and Narni Link, ideal for visiting two of the most fascinating towns in the Green Heart of Italy.

Umbria AirLink, connection to the airport. All of Umbria is within reach by train also for those arriving at the “San Francesco d’Assisi” international airport, which currently has up to 120 flights a week, thanks to Umbria AirLink, in collaboration with Busitalia. The train+bus solutions serving the Umbrian airport are designed for maximum passenger comfort and practical to purchase on all Trenitalia channels, selecting “Perugia Airport” as the arrival or departure location. Thanks also to an hourly model that optimizes travel times (28 minutes from the Perugia Fontivegge FS station and 17 from Assisi), over 37,000 travelers chose Umbria Airlink in 2023 with an increase of 80% compared to those of the year previous.

Bike service on board. To encourage the use of the bike & train solution, the wide availability of seats for two-wheelers on board regional trains in Umbria has been confirmed: around 600 every day, also on the new, comfortable special carriages, introduced from summer 2021 and easily identifiable by the external pictogram. Furthermore, regional trains welcome on board, free of charge, folding bikes, electric scooters and hoverboards.

National trains in circulation in Umbria. With the new summer timetable, the offer of national trains serving Umbria is enriched, thanks to a new pair of Frecciargento Rome-Ravenna which, on summer weekends, will allow departures in the morning from Terni, Spoleto and Foligno to comfortably reach the Adriatic coast and return to Umbria with afternoon departures. The Rome – Ravenna train will leave on Saturday at 10.05am to arrive in Ravenna at 3.12pm (departure from Terni at 11.01am, from Spoleto at 11.45am, from Foligno at 12.01am) and on Sunday at 6.52am arriving in Ravenna at 12.14pm (departure from Terni at 7.43am , from Spoleto at 8.22, from Foligno at 8.39). The return train Ravenna – Rome will leave on Saturday and Sunday from Ravenna at 4.50pm to arrive in Rome at 10pm (arrival in Foligno at 8.16pm, in Spoleto at 8.31pm, in Terni at 8.54pm). The new Frecciargento will stop on the coast, as well as in Ravenna, also in Falconara M.ma, Pesaro, Riccione and Rimini.

The other eight Freccia and FrecciaLink services per day have been confirmed. The Frecciarossa pair Perugia-Milan-Turin and return, the FrecciaLink Assisi-Perugia-Florence and return, the pair of daily Frecciargento that connect Rome and Ravenna passing through Terni, Spoleto and Foligno. The two Frecciarossa trains with a stop in Orte have also been confirmed.

There remain 20 Intercity trains (18 Intercity and 2 Intercity Night) serving the region every day, to which, at the weekend, 4 trains are added (2 Intercity and 2 Intercity Night). For the benefit of the eastern side, the daily connections rise to 12: two Intercity Rome-Trieste and two Intercity Night Rome-Trieste are added to the four pre-existing pairs (two Rome-Ancona, one Terni-Milan and one Perugia-Rome) and, in the end week, the Intercity Notte Rome-Bolzano couple. Serving Orvieto, on the backbone, 8 IC services every day, with an expansion of the Florence-Rome pair (IC581-598). Over the weekend, the two trains between Milan – Reggio Calabria were confirmed.
