The interventions relating to the redevelopment of the Mulini viaduct in the section of the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway between the Caltanissetta and Enna junctions were completed this morning by Anas staff.

Mills Viaduct

The “Mulini” viaduct consists of 22 spans, 47 meters long, for a total length of 1,030 km. The works just completed extend the useful life of the infrastructure built over fifty years ago. The intervention carried out allowed, in fact, the total recovery of the initial functionality of the viaduct, through the execution of the cortical restoration operations of the piers of variable heights from 4.90 to 55.80 meters, and of the pulvini, for a total investment equal to 13.7 million euros.

Traffic returns as before

The road system, until now diverted onto a single lane in the direction of Catania, has resumed its natural configuration, as the Region informs.

“The plan to make the motorway safer and smoother continues, in compliance with the roadmap – underlines the president of the Schifani Region. However, we continue to monitor the other open construction sites with the aim that companies respect the execution times of the works”.

Work on the A19

The works are part of the plan for the adaptation and redevelopment of the A19 “Palermo-Catania”, for an amount equal to 1 billion euros, currently being implemented on several sections of the motorway, and whose coordination of the interventions is entrusted to the president of Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, in the capacity of extraordinary commissioner
