After a stop in Genoa, the train will take cruise passengers back to Savona, who will return to the ship with the shuttle service.

«This new offering reinforces our commitment to the development of more sustainable ground operations, which favor alternative forms of transport, such as rail transport – declares Giuseppe Carino, senior vice president guest experience & onboard sales operations of Costa Crociere – With Trenitalia we continue to work to offer our guests increasingly comfortable and sustainable transport solutions, but also to create value in the destinations in which we operate, developing sustainable mobility networks ” dual use”. The new service goes alongside the similar connection Civitavecchia-Rome already available”.

The service is part of the Costa Crociere and Trenitalia agreement active from August 2022 for the study of ship-train solutions. Among the various initiatives there are also the study of electrical local feeders which connect the port and the station, with the contribution of other companies of the Italian FS Group Passenger Hub and of railway connections of “last tourist mile” port-city-airport.

«The charters from Savona are part of a wide-ranging strategic project that Trenitalia and Costa intend to strengthen – he comments Mario Alovisi, marketing director of Trenitalia – Intermodal transport is one of Trenitalia’s pillars and we intend to build a multimodal experience in each port that accompanies cruise passengers from the first to the last mile on a “green” journey that includes the train. It is a commitment that we have made both in Italy and in the ports of other Mediterranean countries so that customers can travel in an increasingly efficient, sustainable and comfortable way.”
