The new edition of Cinemateneo, the appointment with auteur cinema under the stars promoted by the University of Verona. On 17 and 18 June, from 9.15pm, the garden of the Zanotto center in Viale dell’Università 4 will welcome university students and citizens with two tribute screenings to the Oscar-winning director, Yorgos Lanthimos. The evenings have free admission and, in case of bad weather, they will be held in room T.2 of the Zanotto centre.
The events, promoted by the University’s Communication and Public Engagement area, were created with the artistic direction of Alberto Scandola, teacher of Cinema, photography and television. The screenings will be in the original language, with subtitles.
-AppointmentMonday 17 June, with “Dogtooth.” He will introduce the vision Marianna Lucia of Lucia, PhD student in Entertainment Disciplines at the university.
Dogtooth, Kynodontas is the original title, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, it’s a 2009 film with Angeliki Papoulia, Mary Tsoni, Hristos Passalis, Anna Kalaitzidou, Alexander Voulgaris, Christos Stergioglou, Michele Valley. Lanthimos tells the story of a family who lives isolated in a house surrounded by a large fence whose balance is broken when the father introduces an external element into the house. Viewing is prohibited for minors under 18 years of age.
-Tuesday 18 June will be screened”The sacrifice of the sacred deer”. The evening will be introduced by Gherardo Ugoliniprofessor of classical philology at the university.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer, original title, from 2017, was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay by Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou and starred Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman and Barry Keoghan. The film chronicles the dream life of a brilliant surgeon with his wife and two teenage sons, until a fatherless teenager creeps into their lives. Viewing is prohibited for children under 14 years of age.
