Procession of Sant’Antonio in Bisceglie

The celebrations of Saint Anthony of Padua have come to life. Yesterday, Thursday 13 June, the solemnity of the saint, a Holy Mass was held in the churchyard of the saint at the end of which there was the blessing of the bread and the children. Following this, the procession with the painting depicting the Saint moved to the port where there was a blessing of the sea and the boats.

Today, Friday 14 June, the celebrations come to life with the sea festival, at 9 am there will be the launch of paper bombs in devotion of Pescheria S. Antonio and the opening of the Rectory for personal prayer. To make the most of the day and allow the community to participate in the functions in the rectory of the co-cathedral, mass will not be celebrated.

At 5pm there will be a Holy Mass with the participation of the civil and military authorities, of the ANMI association of the Parish of Saints Matthew and Nicholas, the celebration will be presided over by Don Mauro Sabino parish priest of the parish of Santa Maria del Pozzo Faceto near Montalbano di Fasano , at 6pm the throwing of paper bombs is expected and then the start of the procession with the simulacrum of Saint Anthony of Padua, in which the brotherhoods and associations of the parish reality will take part.

The procession will start from the rectory and then continue along Via Trieste, Via Cristoforo Colombo, Strada Balestrieri, Strada Quagliarella, Largo San Matteo, Via Cardinal Dell’Olio, Piazza Margherita, Via Giovanni Bovio, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, Largo Caduti Corazzata Roma, Via la Marina, via Nazario Sauro, via Porto, to then arrive in via Taranto at 7.30 pm where there will be the embarkation of Saint Anthony on the “Maria Madre” trawler and a commemoration ceremony for those fallen at sea.

After disembarking, the procession will continue along via Porto, via Nazario Sauro, Largo porta di Mare where there will be the blessing of the children and then continue along via Maestro M. Albrizio, Pendio S. Matteo, via Trieste to return to the rectory. At the end of the day, at 10.30pm, a fireworks display.
