The tragedy occurred in the space of an instant in the late afternoon of Thursday 13 June in Montesilvano (Pescara). Mother and daughter (a girl) were hit and killed by a Frecciarossa train bound for Milan, which left nearby Pescara at 5.53pm. They would have seen them arrive shortly before on the platform, at platform 2 of the town station, hand in hand, walking calmly. They would sit on a bench. Then what happened next remains to be clarified. The train that was passing at high speed hit them: some witnesses and the train driver of the investing convoy were shocked and could do nothing to avoid the tragedy.

The train then remained stopped for a long time on the bridge that connects the two banks of the Saline river. The identification of the victims would have taken place a few hours after the drama: the bodies were torn to pieces, the impact with the convoy was extremely violent. There are no certainties, there is also the hypothesis of the voluntary gesture of the woman who would have brought the little girl with her. The images from the station’s video surveillance cameras will be fundamental to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident. The Polfer of Pescara and Ancona is investigating.
