The tiger mosquito, but also ticks and cockroaches. These are the main insect vectors, capable of transmitting diseases from infected animals to humans. To counter them, especially during the summer, the Municipality of Varese has issued an ordinance that aims to limit their proliferation and, consequently, to prevent and control bites and the diseases resulting from them.

The rules will remain in force until October 31st and are aimed at both private citizens and traders, managers or managers of public areas, owners of vegetable gardens, nurseries, industrial, artisanal and commercial activities.

The control program includes the reclamation and reduction of microfoci and possible wetlands (in fact, the larvae of these insects develop in water); The periodic antilarval treatment in humid places that cannot be eliminatedsuch as i manholes for rainwater collection.

Also important is periodic cutting of the grass in courtyards and open lands of inhabited centers, lo regular emptying of water containers in gardens and balconies and the coverage of the immovable ones. Finally, in cemeteries, where water treated with larvicidal products is not available, theuse of damp sand in flower pots instead of water.

In the presence of suspected or confirmed cases of Chikungunya/Dengue or localized infestations of particular consistency with associated health risks, in particular in the areas surrounding schools, hospitals and healthcare homes for the elderly, the Municipality will “carry out the treatments directly or order them against third parties responsible for the identified areas”.
