LIVORNO. The girls and boys of the 4th B Bis and 4th A Bis classes of the Itis “Galilei” participated in the #freehugs (Free Hugs) flash mob organized at the Terrazza Mascagni with the help of the actor Luca Salemmi. The event, part of the “The culture of giving” project, was preceded by a discussion between the children and the health workers of the North West Tuscany Local Health Authority Elena D’Imporzano (Livorno Hospital Donations and Transplant Coordinator) e Federica Pracchia (Education and Health Promotion) on the methods of expressing the desire to donate related to the issue/renewal of the identity card and the donation of organs and tissues.
«The event – he explains Luigi Franchini, responsible for Education and Health Promotion in the Southern Area of the USL Toscana Nord Ovest Company – concluded a project financed by the Tuscany Region and carried out in collaboration with the Tuscany Transplant Organization to raise awareness among school children and citizens in general about the donation of organs and tissues. The importance of a path aimed at developing a culture of solidarity was underlined, strengthening collaborations with voluntary associations and promoting the projects proposed by healthcare companies to encourage healthy lifestyles, prevent chronic diseases and promote the culture of giving . The project then continued through personal re-elaboration paths. For the results obtained I would like to thank the students and teachers involved, but also Dr Paolo LopaneDonation and Transplant Coordinator of the Vast North West Area”.

«The people met – he says Silvia Boni, teacher and coordinator of the project – were enthusiastic about the activity of the children who were made aware and at the same time made the people they met aware of the gift in general. The gift of hugs was a symbolic but fundamental activity to raise awareness and make the population responsible for the gift of something more concrete such as the donation of organs. Only by raising awareness among young people will we be able to achieve greater knowledge and awareness of the importance of donating organs to save lives.”

The children participated in the morning of free hugs and smiles aimed at passers-by accompanied by Silvia Boni (Itis teacher), Carla Ansaldo (Itis teacher), Carla Bacciardi (Itis administrator) and Luca Salemmi (actor of the Il Grattacielo company), gave free hugs and smiles to passers-by.
